Frances is a full-time ceramicist based in Redruth, Cornwall, she works from a small studio in her garden. She fell in love with clay after working an apprenticeship with a Somerset potter, where she worked for seven years. She studied Ceramics and Design at Cornwall College, after which Frances took the plunge to make ceramics her full-time career.
Her work is slab built and hand modelled in earthenware clay, with an emphasis on surface decoration. Each piece is carefully hand painted with underglazes. The Cornish countryside gives her inspiration, although it may not be apparent when you first glance at her pieces, however when you look closely you can see the inspiration lies deep within the detail. Her process is natural and constantly evolving, changing with the fashion and her own personal taste as it develops.
